FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if therapy is right for me?
You don't have to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Many of my clients come to therapy because they feel overwhelmed, stuck, anxious, disconnected, or simply want to better understand themselves. Therapy provides a supportive space to gain insight, develop healthier coping strategies, and create meaningful, lasting change.
What can I expect during my first session?
Our first session is an opportunity to get to know one another. We'll discuss what brings you to therapy, explore your personal history, identify your goals, and talk about what you hope to gain from the process. There's no pressure to share everything at once—we'll move at a pace that feels comfortable while beginning to build a strong therapeutic relationship.
What types of clients do you work with?
I primarily work with adults and specialize in helping men navigate anxiety, stress, trauma, relationship challenges, life transitions, and emotional well-being. I also work with professionals, entrepreneurs, first responders, athletes, and individuals who want to improve their mental health while maintaining an active lifestyle.
What issues do you help people with?
Some of the concerns I commonly work with include:
-
Anxiety and chronic stress

What makes your approach different?
I believe lasting change happens when we address both the mind and body. Along with traditional psychotherapy, I incorporate evidence-based, body-centered techniques, mindfulness, and practical strategies that clients can use in everyday life. Therapy isn't just about talking through problems—it's about helping you build the skills and awareness needed to create meaningful, lasting change.
What is fitness-integrated therapy?
Fitness-integrated therapy recognizes the powerful connection between physical and emotional health. Depending on your goals and clinical needs, we may explore how movement, exercise, breathwork, or body awareness can support emotional regulation, stress reduction, and overall well-being. This approach is always tailored to each individual and is integrated thoughtfully into the therapeutic process—it is not personal training or fitness coaching.
What is walk-and-talk therapy?
Walk-and-talk therapy combines traditional psychotherapy with the benefits of being outdoors. Sessions take place while walking in carefully selected public locations around Laguna Beach. Many clients find that movement and nature help them feel more relaxed, present, and open during therapy.
Because sessions occur in public spaces, we'll discuss confidentiality, privacy considerations, and whether this format is appropriate for your specific needs before getting started.
Do you offer virtual therapy?
Yes. I provide secure telehealth sessions for clients located anywhere in California. Virtual therapy offers flexibility while maintaining the same level of professionalism, confidentiality, and personalized care as in-person sessions.
Do you have a traditional office?
At this time, I do not maintain a physical office. I currently offer secure virtual therapy throughout California and walk-and-talk therapy for clients in the Laguna Beach area.
How often should I attend therapy?
Most clients begin with weekly sessions to build momentum and establish meaningful progress. As your goals evolve, we may transition to biweekly or maintenance sessions based on your individual needs.
How long does therapy last?
There is no one-size-fits-all answer. Some clients seek short-term support around a specific challenge, while others benefit from longer-term therapy focused on deeper personal growth. Together, we'll regularly review your goals and adjust our work accordingly.
Do you accept insurance?
I am a private-pay practice and do not bill insurance directly. This allows therapy to remain focused on your individual needs rather than insurance requirements or treatment limitations.
If your insurance plan includes out-of-network mental health benefits, I can provide a superbill that you may submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.
Why choose a private-pay therapist?
Private-pay therapy offers several benefits, including greater privacy, increased flexibility in treatment, and the ability to tailor therapy to your unique goals without the restrictions often imposed by insurance companies. Many clients appreciate having care that is guided by clinical needs rather than insurance policies.
What are your fees?
Please visit the Services Page for current session fees. Payment is due at the time of service, and I accept major credit cards as well as HSA and FSA cards when applicable.
What is your cancellation policy?
If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, I ask for at least 24 hours' notice. Appointments canceled with less than 24 hours' notice, or missed appointments, may be subject to the full session fee.
Is therapy confidential?
Yes. Everything discussed in therapy is confidential except in specific situations required by law, such as concerns about imminent risk of harm to yourself or others, suspected abuse or neglect of a child, dependent adult, or elder, or when disclosure is otherwise required by law. We'll review confidentiality and its limits during your first session so you know exactly what to expect.
What if I've never been to therapy before?
That's completely okay. Many people feel uncertain before their first appointment. My goal is to create a welcoming, collaborative environment where you can feel comfortable asking questions, exploring your concerns, and moving at a pace that feels right for you.
How do I know if we're a good fit?
A strong therapeutic relationship is one of the most important predictors of successful therapy. If after meeting together we determine that another therapist may better meet your needs, I'll gladly help connect you with appropriate resources or referrals.
How do I get started?
The first step is simply reaching out. You can schedule a free consultation or contact me through the website. We'll briefly discuss what you're looking for, answer any questions you have, and determine whether we're a good fit to work together.
